Technology Planning Committee
Technology Planning Committee
School District No.46 is committed to develop a ‘living’ district-wide Technology Education Plan, because we believe that Information and Communication Technology is a means, not an end. When technology provides the most effective and efficient means to assist schools in meeting their goals for some or all students, then it should be utilized. Knowing when and how to use technology requires the same thoughtfulness, care and professional decision making that must be used for all other aspects of district operations and instructional practices.
Philosophy
While modern technology has great potential to enhance teaching and learning, turning that potential into reality on a large scale is a complex, multifaceted task. The key determinant of our success will not be the number of computers purchased or cables installed, but rather how we define educational visions, prepare and support teachers, design curriculum, address issues of equity, and respond to the rapidly changing world. As is always the case in efforts to improve K–12 education, simple, short-term solutions turn out to be illusions; long-term, carefully planned commitments are required.
The Technology Planning Committee began meeting in October 2011. Representation from CUPE, SCTA and administration were invited to attend these planning meetings. As well, selected individuals were invited as representing administration assistants at both elementary and secondary, EAs and technology.
