Read & Write
Accessibility in SD46
In SD 46 we support all of our students to have access to their curriculum content. School and home technology can be set up to have all text read aloud for a student (text to speech) and to support students output of learning through dictation (speech to text) and word prediction. See these accessibility documents to help your home technology support your student.
Accessibility Options on your Mac Computer
SD46 has a district licence to the software Read and Write. It is a product from Texthelp and works on a Mac computer, an iPad and through the Chrome browser. Read and write offers students a toolbar to use on all web pages, on Word and Google documents and on PDF’s to support literacy.
The toolbar reads text aloud to a student, reducing the stress of decoding. Options for dictation, word prediction and picture dictionaries are among the toolbar features. Students using Google Classroom with their g46 accounts have all of these features from an extension in their Google Chrome toolbar.
We believe in providing all students the literacy support they need to enhance and communicate their learning.
If your student does not yet have a g46 account and you want to download the software for use at home, please send an email to parenthelp@sd46.bc.ca
